BERGHAMMER COMPLETES PHASE I OF ST. MARY’S HOME FOR THE AGED REPOSITIONING PROJECT

November 17, 2009, Butler, WI – Berghammer Construction Corporation has recently completed Phase I of the St. Mary’s Felician Village campus renovation and repositioning project in Manitowoc, Wisconsin.

The campus, which offers both assisted and independent living options, as well as activities and other amenities for senior citizens, is being updated and reconfigured to enhance the facility’s ability to provide a sense of community and a residential atmosphere for the residents.

In partnership with Eppstein Uhen Architects, the first phase of this project involved the demolition of a few existing structures on the 22-acre campus; and the building of a new community based residential facility and the Village Square building. The completion of this phase moved residents living in the existing community based residential facility closer to the activities and amenities. The completion also provided a central location with updated facilities for all the services that Felician Village offers.

The main objective for this three-phase project is to achieve a more home-like environment while at the same time making the operation of this campus more efficient. With the brand new energy efficient buildings, Felician Village expects to substantially drive down their operational costs.

“They (Felician Village) were forward-thinking enough to install geothermal wells for the heating and cooling of the building.  This had a higher upfront cost, but it will pay for itself within 7 years.  At that point, the energy efficient system will begin to save them significant money, not to mention they are helping the environment by employing a very green initiative,” said Terry Koth, Vice President of Construction. Berghammer is currently working on Phase II with a scheduled completion date of August, 2010. The second phase involves the construction of a 64-bed skilled nursing facility and a 16-apartment residential care apartment complex.

Located in Butler, Wisconsin, Berghammer Construction Corporation provides construction management services and builds diversified projects throughout southeastern Wisconsin, with core competencies in construction for commercial office, healthcare, education, hospitality, industrial, institutional and senior living markets.
