19th Annual Trek 100
Executive Vice President, Jim Parks, Director of Estimating, Chris Rozof, and Field Superintendent, Steve Strelka participated in the 19th Annual Trek 100 Ride for Hope on Saturday, June 7, 2008.

Trek Bicycle Corporation and the MACC Fund (Midwest Athletes Against Childhood Cancer, Inc.) sponsored the event. Proceeds from this ride support critical pediatric cancer and related blood disorder research efforts. Berghammer established the Berghammer Bicycle Club in 2006. Several members of the field and office staff are avid cyclists and participate in many charitable events.

Butler Public Library
Berghammer is proud to take part in the construction of the new Butler Public Library. Berghammer will be donating the labor for the footings, concrete floors and concrete site work for the facility.

In addition, Berghammer has offered to contribute its budgeting and scheduling expertise. The new 6,000 square foot library, designed by Wolfgram & Associates, will provide a gathering space for Butler area residents. The groundbreaking ceremony was held on Saturday, March 15, 2008 and the project is scheduled to complete in November.

Executive Vice President, Jim Parks, joined seven members of St. Mary’s Parish in Elm Grove and Lumen Christi Parish in Mequon, on a Minga to Ecuador. A Minga is a community service project that brings together local residents to complete a large job. During the 9 day trip to Quito, Ecuador, the group built a roof structure and stair for a new house. “It’s powerful to be part of a project that has such an impact on people.” Jim continued, “I like participating in a project like this because you are creating something tangible that will change the quality of people’s lives.” This is Jim’s fifth trip to Ecuador. Jim’s aunt, a Blessed Virgin Mary sister, started the mission 42 years ago and his mother is the primary fundraiser, here in the U.S. Jim has also been blessed with three adopted sisters from Ecuador.

The Berghammer Word Slingers participated in the 17th Annual Milwaukee Spellbound for Literacy Spelling Bee on October 23, 2008 at the WE Energies Auditorium. Last year the Word Slingers, comprised of Martin Chapa, Matt Iwanski and George Minnich, were awarded the “Most Original Team Name.” The Word Slingers have been part of the Annual Spelling Bee since 1992. Berghammer is proud to support Literacy Services of Wisconsin in its effort to provide education to adults throughout Wisconsin.

Each year, Eppstein Uhen Architects holds its Beyond Design Bike Tour to promote close ties between Madison and Milwaukee and to raise money for the Eppstein Uhen Foundation. The 82-mile ride started at State Fair Park in Milwaukee, and ended at the Alliant Energy Center in Madison. The event raised more than $50,000 for the Eppstein Uhen Foundation and its grant recipients – UW-Milwaukee’s College for Kids program and UW-Maidson’s Movin’ Minds program. Berghammer was a major sponsor of the event, with several employees participating as riders or volunteers.

HeartLove Place serves to motivate and empower low-income, minority children and families in the heart of Milwaukee’s Central City. Chaired by Berghammer President Leif Nesheim, the HeartLove Place Annual Golf Outing and Auction raises money to support the facility and buy the equipment it needs. The 6th annual event held on September 15, 2008 at Bristlecone Pines Golf Club in Hartland, Wisconsin raised more than $95,000.

The Annual Golf Invitational is a major source of funding. Sponsored in part by Berghammer and chaired by Leif Nesheim, the outing included a silent and live auction. This event was held at Brynwood Country Club in Milwaukee, and raised over $55,000.
