Executive Vice President, Jim Parks, joined seven members of St. Mary’s Parish in Elm Grove and Lumen Christi Parish in Mequon, on a Minga to Ecuador. A Minga is a community service project that brings together local residents to complete a large job. More
Executive Vice President, Jim Parks, joined seven members of St. Mary’s Parish in Elm Grove and Lumen Christi Parish in Mequon, on a Minga to Ecuador. A Minga is a community service project that brings together local residents to complete a large job. During the 9 day trip to Quito, Ecuador, the group built a roof structure and stair for a new house. “It’s powerful to be part of a project that has such an impact on people.” Jim continued, “I like participating in a project like this because you are creating something tangible that will change the quality of people’s lives.” This is Jim’s fifth trip to Ecuador. Jim’s aunt, a Blessed Virgin Mary sister, started the mission 42 years ago and his mother is the primary fundraiser, here in the U.S. Jim has also been blessed with three adopted sisters from Ecuador.

Participants gain an understanding of community issues, experience working with community issues, the development of leadership skills and knowledge of dealing with diverse points of view. Senior Vice President, George Minnich, is a recent graduate of the program and Project Manager, Tiffany May, is currently enrolled in the program.

Annual Spellbound for Literacy Spelling Bee hosted by Literacy Services
of Wisconsin on October 18, 2007. Although the Berghammer Word Slingers
did not bring home the Championship Trophy, they were awarded the title,
"Most Original Team Name." Berghammer is proud to support Literary
Services of Wisconsin in their effort to provide education to adults
throughout Wisconsin.

Chief Estimator, Chris Rozof, has joined his church, St. James Parish in Menomonee Falls, to rehabilitate a condemned house on 13th and Burleigh for a refugee family from Somalia. The members of St. James Parish teamed up with St. Martin De Porres Church located in the central city to complete the project. Chris’s extensive background in construction has helped him be a major contributor in the demolition, drywall, and foundation repair of the house. Special thanks to Cardinal Fabricating, Commercial Walls and Wisconsin Drywall, and Porta Paint and Sherwin-Williams for their generous donations.

Each year, Eppstein Uhen Architects holds its Beyond Design Bike Tour to promote close ties between Madison and Milwaukee and to raise money for the Eppstein Uhen Foundation. The 2007 tour was a 100-mile century ride to celebrate Eppstein Uhen’s 100th anniversary. Berghammer was a major sponsor of the event, with several employees participating as riders or volunteers.

HeartLove Place serves to motivate and empower low-income, minority children and families in the heart of Milwaukee’s Central City. Chaired by Berghammer President Leif Nesheim, the HeartLove Place Annual Golf Outing, live auction and FUNDA raises money to support the facility and buy the equipment it needs. The 2007 event was held at Bristlecone Pines Golf Club in Hartland, Wisconsin, and raised more than $110,000.

St. Aemilian-Lakeside, Inc. provides innovative family-centered care and educational services that embrace diversity and empower children, families, and adults to improve the quality of their lives. The Annual Golf Invitational is a major source of funding. Sponsored in part by Berghammer and chaired by Leif Nesheim, the outing included a silent and live auction. A FUNDA was also held to sponsor field trips and scholastic supplies. This event was held at Merrill Hills Country Club in Waukesha, Wisconsin, and raised $58,000.
